THE McMANNIS HOUSE,
South Bolton

McMannis House is one
of the oldest houses in South Bolton, built in 1883 - 1984 by
John McMannis. The original one story house comprising a dinning
room and a large kitchen. In 1903 - 1904 a second story was
built with 6 bedrooms and a dance hall. one of his daughters
married Wilkie Fuller, and they began operating the place as a
summer boarding house. Miss Mary Selby owned it for many years
and ran it as a boarding house. Mr. George Klywak owned the
property around 1990.
John McMannis farmed his land and operated a saw mill, all
the while being an Innkeeper. In 1852 he became the first
district post master, a position he held in his different hotels
in South Bolton until 1903. In 1866 McMannis House also
became the telegraph office. He became the first mayor of East
Bolton in 1885 and County Warden in 1886. He was the Secretary
Treasurer of the Bolton Township School Board for many years and
the meetings were held in this hotel. Mr. McMannis and his wife
Sally Hanson are buried in the Holy Trinity Cemetery, a short
distance from McMannis House.

Mr. George Klywak owned the property around 1990. McMannis house
was purchased in 2000 by Marthe and Joris Beirnaert and converted into a Bed and
Breakfast named La Taniere. In 2010 Andree and Peter purchased
the property and will continue to operate it as a Bed and
Breakfast
